11.29.20 Prince of Peace

The season of Advent is upon us and this Sunday we begin our series on PEACE.

In the familiar verses of Isaiah 9, the Messiah is given several names that describe his character and mission. One of those titles is the “Prince of Peace. We might also remember that the Angels, proclaiming Christ’s birth to the Shepherds in the field outside Bethlehem, promised that his arrival meant “peace on earth.”

In 2020 we have experienced a lot of things, but peace doesn’t seem to be one of them.

How is it that Jesus is the Prince of Peace whose arrival was supposed to usher in a time of peace? What kind of peace is promised? Has it arrived? How do we see and experience it?
