This Lord’s Day we seek to expound a small portion of Paul’s second letter to the ancient church at Corinth. After acknowledging the ministry of the gospel that was imparted to him and its power that is from God alone, he explains how life’s afflictions are incomparable to the glory that will be revealed in the saints of God. He goes further to make one of the boldest claims in the entire letter, that he is willing rather to be absent from the body and be present with the Lord. The degree of faith, courage, and zeal to be in Christ’s radiant presence overwhelms the Apostle with joy and mission, from which we hope to garner within ourselves; receiving, what we may call an exclusive comfort, reserved only for Christians, who long for the moment they will enter that eternal state of immortality in the presence of Almighty God.
