"Be transformed by the renewal of your mind"

From The Abundance of a New Heart

2016-10-23 by Sandor Kotzeff

“Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit." Matthew 12: 33

Be careful little mouth what you say.
Because there's a Father up above
And He's looking down in love.
So, be careful little mouth what you say.**

Funny how a children's song can have the ability to ring still so clear in the ears of an adult. The Bible has a great deal of things to say about the tongue, both concerning its ability to love and encourage, and also its power to corrupt and destroy. Jesus was clear in telling us that we would be judged by our words, primarily because our speech reflects the feelings that exist in our heart. This problem is a big one for humanity but the solution is clear. We need new hearts.

The Holy Spirit is capable of taking up as much space in our hearts as our flesh is willing to surrender to it. With a softened heart, The Holy Spirit of God can begin It's great work in us by flushing out the worldly longings of sin and replacing it with a passion for God's righteousness, causing us to despise the presence of sin in our lives. The end result is a changed heart, a changed mind and bringing with it changed behavior. Soon our friends and neighbors will see an unexplainable alteration in the way we live our lives, and hear it too! Hearing and seeing the changed attitude of a person reborn in Christ is one of the most powerful witnesses to God that a disciple can participate in. A genuine belief in Christ will produce good fruit that will feed the souls around us and nourish their hearts with good so they might undergo a change of their own.

However, to the uninspired heart, perhaps one who has taken in the venom of false doctrine will produce bad fruit. When others take it in, they will in turn be fertilised in heart by tainted contents. The heart knows the difference, and as Christians, we pray with zeal that this bad fruit will not poison the world with its lie. Jesus did not tolerate the cultivation of bad fruit that blasphemed the name of His Father. His disciple's respond with the same intolerance.

After reading this, consider and pray on how you might make your tree good. By refusing to partake in questionable talk with your peers, showing love and compassion to those suffering around you and telling the whole truth of God's message, we can demonstrate how the deepest longings of our heart have found rest with Jesus, and he has made our hearts (trees) genuinely good.

Lord, Jesus. I see the evil that resides in my heart and recognise that it is the source of the evil that spills from my mouth. Father God please soften my heart so that your Holy Spirit can produce in me your righteousness. I trust in your power and your ability to win the spiritual battle that is going on for my soul. Let not the lies of the world take command of my life, Father but instead I ask you to take control. I surrender to your will and thank you for freeing me from the bondage of evil that once held dominion in my heart. Let your Spirit produce in my heart your goodness, so that from its abundance I may speak that same good into the world for you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
