Christ Within Us
"so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith-that you, being rooted and grounded in love,"
Ephesians 3: 14-21
In this passage, Paul prays for all of humanity that we may experience the power of Christ and the Holy Ghost settling down inside of us. As individuals, Christ has a massive renovation plan for the interior of ourselves, and Paul prays that once the Holy Spirit is invited into our hearts and our lives that we allow it to work freely on all the areas that are in need of repair. That both the external presentation and internal private aspects of our lives be either strengthened or removed in preparation for all that Christ has planned for us.
If we as Christians are ready to mirror the life of Jesus, then we must be prepared to tear down our lives as they have built to resemble Adam, rather than God. Christ will only do his best work in our hearts if our lives are pleasing to him. This may seem like a hopeless, never ending struggle, and it is. But God, in his infinite power is ready, willing and able to accomplish what we as mere men cannot even fathom to ask for in our own prayers. Let's pray for God to prepare our lives to mimic Christ’s motivations, selflessness and holiness. Only then will our Savior be perfectly effective and comfortable within us.
Our goal as Christians is to sanctify our hearts to glorify our creator and have our lives be pleasing in his sight. The Holy Spirit efforts tirelessly to help us pursue holiness. Through prayer and submission to God’s will, we can aid the Holy Spirit in eliminating sin from our lives, and build spiritual barriers to prevent it from re-entering.
